How to compress and extract files

Supported compression formats

The cPanel File Manager supports the following compression formats: zip, tar, tar.gz, 7z.RAR compression is not supported.

 

Zipped file or folder

In cPanel > click on “File Manager” (located in “Files” section).

Navigate to the folders and files to be compressed, select them, and click the “Compress” button from the top menu. If you want to compress multiple folders and files, you can do multiple selections by holding down the Ctrl key while clicking.

Select the format needed for compression > enter the name of the archive > click “Compress File(s)” button to start compression. After compression completed, close the report by clicking on “Close” button.

 

Decompress the file

In cPanel > click on “File Manager” (located in “Files” section).

Navigate to the file you want to decompress > and click on “Extract” button from top menu.

In the pop-up dialog box, enter the path to where you want the archive decompressed (default is current directory, where the archive file is located), > then click on "Extract File(s)" button to start dearchive process. After decompression is completed, close the report by clicking on “Close” button.
